“Today’s news that Eliot Spitzer was likely involved with a prostitution ring and his refusal to deny it leads to one inescapable conclusion: He has disgraced his office and the entire state of New York,” said Assembly Republican leader James Tedisco. “He should resign his office immediately.”

From article.

Hold on. Let’s see that again, this time with some bolding:

“Today’s news that Eliot Spitzer was likely involved with a prostitution ring and his refusal to deny it leads to one inescapable conclusion: He has disgraced his office and the entire state of New York,” said Assembly Republican leader James Tedisco. “He should resign his office immediately.”

Remember Clinton’s denial of the Lewinsky scandal?

“I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time, never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people.”

And Clinton is still seen in very positive light by the majority of Americans today.

It seems as though the right thing to do in politics is to deny.

It seems that there is no honour at all for the confessor – he is simply dragged to the gallows more swiftly and with far less remorse than the denier.
