So easy!

Just follow the instructions here.

All I did was Create / Polygon Primitives / Platonic Solids,

Then select at the right side in the channel box “Icosahedron”

Then Mesh / Smooth to add more polygons

    Quick comment: In the latest Maya, if you really just want a subdivided icosahedron and it’s creating weird more smoothed shapes for you, make sure you selected Linear smoothing in the Smooth tool options.

    Figured someone might want to know one day
